I was a waitlister, but didn’t order during the discount period. Is the discount still available?

The discounted waitlist period ended September 7, 2020. We sent notices of this deadline on 8/30 and 9/3, with 48 and 24-hour notices. As much as we’d like to extend this offer, it is not sustainable for us to do so as a startup company.

What is the 1 key, anti-theft system?

This is the one-key system that locks the Mach2 into the hitch and the Add-ons together.

You can see the red safety latch that connects the Add-ons together and the blue push-button barrel lock that protects it from being removed.

The same lock and key are used to lock the rack into the hitch.

You will receive 2 keys with the Mach2 hitch rack. If you purchase more Add-ons later down the road, we can look up what variation of lock you already have and match it to your existing keys. Additional keys can also be purchased.

How do I lock my bike to the rack?

Cable locks are the best way to lock your bike. You can also put padlocks on the wheel size levers if desired. Remember, locks only “keep honest people honest.” In today’s world, with battery powered grinders and such, your best security is to keep the bikes in your sight or locked and out of public view. An integrated lock would force us to raise prices, so we encourage customers to invest in a lock that best suits their security needs and budget.

What if I have fenders on my bike?

There are two types of fenders: Plastic and Steel.
Our suggestions are:

  • For plastic, the spool will push down the fender to the tire for a snug fit.
  • For steel, you could take foam pads, and cut it to wrap around the spool so that the fender will not get scratched.

NOTE: Sorry, but we are not responsible for any damage to fenders due to these suggestions and your usage of them.

As long as the tire spools hug the tires ABOVE the horizontal mid line of the wheel, it is secure. In other words, the contact should be above a line drawn horizontally from the axle (above 90 degrees).

My 2″ hitch has 4.625″ insertion maximum and little room. I don’t think the spring auto-pin thing would fit. Can I just remove it and use a regular locking pin?

Yes, you can remove it with one screw and use a standard hitch pin bolt with cotter pin or lock.

Will the rack work with a 1.25” to 2” hitch adapter?

Yes! We suggest a 1.25″ to 2″ hitch adapter stabilizer for a tight fit. A 1-1/4″ to 2″ convertible hitch model is in development and will be our next product release. Join the backorder list here.

Have you tested the rack on the back of a ProMaster Van? Does it tilt enough to allow the doors to open?

Yes! It clears by about an inch without a hitch extender. But it was only on one 2019 model, so you must check it yourself.

What do I do if the Captive Safety Pin doesn’t work for my vehicle?

Easy!

Remove it with one screw and use your own lock or hitch pin. Watch our demo to learn more about the adaptability of the redesigned hitch:

What are the redesigned hitch specs?

The new hitch design uses two aluminum pads instead of one steel ball. The pads are stronger, smoother and more stable, as the old steel ball version could deform the hitch over time. Watch it in action:

Note: that the Captive Spring Pin can be removed with one screw for vehicles that don’t have clearance for it.

Here are the dimensions for the Hitch assembly.

How do I keep the rack arm from squeaking?

Do NOT use any lubricant as it will collect dirt and prevent the necessary friction to keep the rack arm locked in place. When operating the rack arm, squeaking can be minimized by lifting the red lever parallel with the silver bar as shown below.

What size bikes can the rack handle?

The bike rack can be used with wheel sizes from 12″ to 29″ and up to a 5″ wide tire with no adapters needed. See the no-tools tire size adjustment in action:

Are the racks rated for RV and travel-trailer usage?

We advise a two-bike max with only the 2 in. hitch model.

Category: Specs and Fitment
Permalink
a

Can I attach a 4th Add-on (to make a 5 bike system)?

We advise against it because it extends beyond DOT regulations and it would put excessive leverage and strain on the vehicle’s hitch and rack components.

Hitch adapter compatibility

We offer a fixed 2″ hitch model and a 1.25″ to 2″ convertible model with the adapter included. However, if you are looking to convert to a 2″+ hitch, look for a hitch adapter that removes wobble from the vehicle/adapter connection, and use the shortest adapter available. The smaller the distance between the bumper and rack, the more stable.

Why is the Quik Rack Mach2 more expensive than competitors?

With the inventor of the original Quik Rack in our corner, you can expect his latest model, the Mach2, to be the industry standard. It’s lightweight, modular, and can handle 300 lbs. Cal’s racks have stood the test of time and we know some of you are willing to invest in the best for your carbon fiber steeds and versatile eBikes.

It is priced to reflect its ease-of-use, which can’t be matched. We are also 100% American-made, which naturally poses cost challenges, but we’re proud to wear that badge, especially during a time when small businesses need our support now more than ever! We hope you’ll consider investing in the latest & greatest.
