QuikrStuff Bike Racks Rarely Reported Stolen
These days, it’s not just your bikes you need to keep an eye on—your bike rack deserves some protection too. While we’ve only had two reports of QuikrStuff racks being stolen off vehicles, we know your rack is a serious investment. That’s why we’re sharing some smart tips and extra support to help you keep it safe.
QuikrStuff’s One-Key Anti-Theft Feature Starts at the Hitch
First off, the Quik Rack Mach2 locks securely at the hitch. It takes just seconds to insert the rack into the hitch, tighten the blue lever, and push the button to lock the rack to your vehicle. And every add-on, and the ramp as well, locks to the component before it with the same quick locking mechanism. Of course, all locks use the same key; that’s the beauty of our “one-key anti-theft” system. Unless someone has your key (or shows up with a saw, which, believe it or not, is how the only two reported thefts happened), your QuikrStuff isn’t going anywhere.
And if someone does get your rack? Good luck to them—a rack without a hitch is nearly impossible to use, resell, or find parts for unless they go through us and the safeguards we have in place.
What We Do on Our End to Secure Your Investment
To help protect your investment, QuikrStuff’s customer service team is both helpful and cautious. Many buyers check with us before purchasing a used rack, and with the serial number, we can confirm if it’s been reported stolen or damaged. When a rack changes hands, we also update our records to reflect the new owner.
If someone requests replacement keys, we verify ownership. If the rack is registered to someone else, we require their permission before sending new keys.
What You Can Do to Further Protect Your Rack
For an extra layer of security, you can remove and store the rack in your vehicle while you’re out riding or at home when the rack is not in use. It might seem like a hassle, but the Quik Rack Mach2 is lightweight (just 30 pounds), folds, and is small enough–the size of a carry-on–to stash in your trunk or back seat. You can reinstall it in seconds.
Adding a GPS tracker is also an option. One customer discovered that Elevation Labs TagVault AirTag holders fit perfectly on the Mach2 and Add-On and they’re difficult to remove and open. If you install two, a thief might remove the one he finds and think he’s home-free; but, in reality, you’re still able to locate your rack.
Cable locks add an extra layer of security. You could wind one through the rack and underparts of your vehicle. These are available on our product page.
With some vehicles, it might be possible to use a standard locking hitch pin. We don’t often recommend it because a) we don’t feel it’s necessary and b) getting beneath your vehicle to deal with a locking hitch pin and finding and using yet another key is neither quick or easy and – as you know – QuikrStuff is all about quick and easy.
Parking strategically–up against a wall, fence, pole, or tree–makes it hard for anyone to access the rack. Also parking in well-lit, visible, busy areas can deter any attempted thefts.
Last, if you are overly concerned about theft, be sure your rack is covered by your vehicle or homeowner’s insurance.
